Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Langboard handles information when you use the Langboard iPhone app, its keyboard extension, or this website. Langboard is designed as an on-device keyboard: what you type is processed on your device to generate Chinese candidates and English learning content, and is not uploaded to Langboard servers.

2. Information handled on your device

To provide input and learning features, Langboard may process and store locally:

• The pinyin keys you press and the Chinese candidates you choose
• The text you have typed, used to build the sentence shown on the learning bar
• A user dictionary of words and selection frequencies, so the keyboard adapts to you over time
• English translations and word-by-word glosses generated for the learning bar
• App settings, such as what the learning bar shows and how quickly translation runs

This information stays in the App's storage on your device and is used to make the keyboard and learning features work.

3. Permissions and translation

The Langboard keyboard works like a standard iOS keyboard. Typing Chinese works without any special permission.

The English learning bar uses Apple's on-device translation framework. To use it, iOS requires you to allow Full Access for the keyboard in Settings. Full Access is needed only so the system translation feature can run; Langboard itself does not send your typing anywhere. The translation language resources are downloaded from Apple through the Langboard app, and Apple's handling of that download and any translation processing is described by Apple's own privacy policy.

4. Purchases

If you make a purchase in Langboard, Apple processes the payment and provides the App with the entitlement status needed to unlock the purchased features. Langboard does not receive your full payment card details. Apple's privacy policy and App Store terms also apply.

5. Information we do not require

Langboard does not require an account, profile, contact list, location, or social login. We do not use what you type to build an advertising profile. This static website does not intentionally use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

If you contact support, we receive the email address and other information you choose to include so that we can respond.

6. Retention and deletion

Your user dictionary, learning data, and settings remain in the App's storage on your device until you delete the App, which removes them. Text you type is delivered to the app you are typing in; Langboard keeps it only as long as needed for the current sentence and learning bar. Translations shown on the learning bar are held briefly in memory to keep the bar responsive, and are not written to a permanent log.

If you email support, we keep the conversation only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, provide support, or meet legal obligations.

7. Security

Langboard relies on the storage and permission controls provided by iOS. No method of storage or processing is completely secure, but we limit what the App collects and keep the input and learning workflow on your device.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy when the App or its data practices change. The latest version will be posted on this page with a new revision date.
